Projections on Stage

This seems to be the new big thing.  There are lots of advantages to it.  they can help create a simple backdrop or a moving picture.  it really started to experiment with this last year with my Gr performance of Fame.  We used projections quite a lot.  We had a cool series we put together for projection on to body bags.  I constructed a white back drop that we could project upon and the actors where in white body bags - it was pretty cool.

Another way of using it was we had pictures of famous people that the student's were portraying and editing them into three TV screens.  It was projected just above the heads of the students.  It had to be edited into position using Premier Pro.

My two favourite ones where of course the most time consuming but they were worth it and helped me perfect my editing skills.  For the ending, using physical theatre we had created a dance sequence.  It went through various stages of a persons exploration of trying to be famous.  The music and the clips had to go with the performance on stage.  I put little markers in the clip which allowed me to freeze the projection.  It was easy to do this using imovies.

My favourite piece was about a "on line suicide".  So each member of the group had a sequence  and time limit they had to record. They used imovies to do this.  The we had a screen and I had to edit 6 people coming on line at different times.  There was a black space in the middle - because that was live on stage and the online symbol was flashing; I also had a screen counter with the number of people watching.  Then when the girl died they all looked in were the desk was.  It was very effective.  they the all went off line at different times, the counter went back down and the online flashed to off line.

This year has been much simpler.
