Just finished reading Barry Grantham's Commedia Plays. It was well written and it is good for students to have a format they can refer to in the beginning to help their devising process. There was a list of lazzi - I felt this was already covered by reading through the scripts. I did enjoy the link to the great physical comedies of the silent film era. Good book - must read his other one - Playing Commedia.

Well it has been a busy time and it has been a long time between posts. Here is a different way of doing reflections
VOICE THREAD - Audio and visual - As a introduction into teaching the students skills that they might use in the DP course and especially in DP Theatre, I got my Gr 9 and 10's to do their final reflections as an audio file with pictures. If voice thread wasn't band in China I would have used that but unfortunately it is. So I came up with another solution - well a few actually. Mark 1 - for the students who had Garage band - they recorded their reflections and had pictures that related to their reflections - and they exported as a podcast - which I have been able to listen to through i tunes; Mark 2 - using I Movies(or a movie program) and Audacity - same as above and then I watch them; lastly - using Audacity and Power point /Keynote - they can record the oral and then put it into the power point. Good start - the reflections need work on. if I have a good one I will post it. I used Survey Monkey with my gr 11 class after their workshops. It worked really well with the Junior students. I had a few technical difficulties with the Gr11 version. It is an easy program and a great way to get responses. it can help you analyse the results even on the basic version. Helpful for IB students to gather audience opinion. You can create it to suit your needs.
I use audacity with a lot of my classes. Our school has 1 to 1 mac so I also get them to use Garage band which is inbuilt on their computers. The students record their pieces and then convert them into mp3 files. This is easy to do. I have to give my kids a Lame file to help them do it. If anyone wants it I can save it on resources. Let me know.
Then they have a mp3 files to practice with; help them learn lines - I also tell them it is a great study tool. It really helps them focus on movement and not worry about text so much. They can redo as many times as they like especially when they change ideas. Good techniques to see how Given circumstances can effect a performance. Not my idea originally - a great teacher at WAB - Mr Duffield gave me the idea . |
